Lately, I've been watching these commercials for those ''TRUTH'' campaigns. You know, the anti-cigarette ''TRUTH'', usually shoving ''the truth'' right down our throats. The most recent commercial I can remember is showing a human brain being cut in half and showing what happens to your brain when you smoke, or those ''smoking is doing you damage'' commercials where it shows (very graphically) what happens in your lungs, the link for one of those commercials is on top of the post.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for anti-tobacco and things like that, but there's better ways to express your point of view than basically shoving graphic images down our throats. Scaring people out of smoking NEVER works, I mean let's be realistic here. Also, even people who don't smoke have to look at these images,It's downright disturbing. Like I said, I'm all for ''Truth'', but do we really need to be grossed out by these images? There's better ways to get people off cigarettes.

Well may be we have to see thoes graphic images to make us stop smoking. didnt the image make u say in your head "aww grose!" or "eww!" if it did then the people that made the comercial did their jobs. the point of the comercial is to show you stuff that would make you stop smoking.
ReplyDeleteI think that people need to see the harsh truth of what these products do to you. Most people let the warnings go threw one ear and out the other. I think images like this make them more aware of what these products actaully do to you. Hopefully if they get grossed out or too offended by these images, then they could realize the reality of how harmful the products are.
ReplyDeletePeople who smoke don't know the damage it is doing to their body and even if they do, they clearly don't care, so putting these commericals on t.v won't make a difference. The only problem I have with the commericals is the fact that our children are watching them too. A child should not have to watch someone cut open a brain. I know if I was younger and watching that I would be terrified.
ReplyDeleteThe topic is awesome - I was thinking about this when I watched that poor boy die in the luge this week over and over. However, I don't think it applies to the truth campaign for smoking!

I think that these commercials aren't any less graphic then other things shown on television. If these commercials gross you out, then you can simply just change the channel. Smokers could be doing this too, and not even seeing the commercial, but I think it is worth it if it makes at least one person think about not smoking. Also, I understand that some children could be terrified by something like that, but that might actually be positive. If a child who has a parent who smokes sees this, then they could become scared for the parent. I know some parents actually decide to quit when they see that their children are worried or scared about them.
ReplyDeleteI don't think these commercials should be taken off just because they freak some people out. I am a horrible scaredy cat when it comes to scary movies, and whenever a commercial for a scary movie is on I freak out and change the channel. Even though these thing scare me, I do not think they should stop showing them. No one forces me to watch that commercial, and I can turn it off if it makes me uncomfortable.
