The News Is On, Grab A Kleenex!

When I had filmmaking class, We watched a film called ''Bowling For Columbine''. It was a Michael Moore film, meaning it was very outspoken in the matter of the movie's context. I found it interesting how the film lookeed at the way News is delivered on television and how it only concentrates on the negative things that happen. It shocks me how right Moore was on his perspective. I mean, turn on a random news channel right now and tell me what is being discussed, probably the victim in the latest hit-and-run, or how the cops are searching for this guy that did THIS and his accomplice that did THAT, and then after that they'll talk about celebrity drama (Tiger Woods),and then after that, they'll talk about the next big depressing rain storm headed our way. The way the news is set up, the only good things you hear about nowadays is when someone gets rescued by a firefighter or something like that. The bad thing about it is even if you don't want to watch the news, you HAVE to, to know what's going on this particular day. I mean I know people buy into tragedy and that's the real reason people watch the news, but i just wish things were just a BIT happier on the news we receive. The media twists things out of context and makes it sound worse than it really is. They make a mountain out of a mole.

NOTE: I found pictures of news related political cartoons criticizing news topics, but the site won't let me attach them to the blog. I also can't find clips from the movie from Youtube of the exact scene I wanted to show.

Is Too Much Of ''The Truth'' Really A Good Thing?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxPAe735Hc0

Lately, I've been watching these commercials for those ''TRUTH'' campaigns. You know, the anti-cigarette ''TRUTH'', usually shoving ''the truth'' right down our throats. The most recent commercial I can remember is showing a human brain being cut in half and showing what happens to your brain when you smoke, or those ''smoking is doing you damage'' commercials where it shows (very graphically) what happens in your lungs, the link for one of those commercials is on top of the post.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for anti-tobacco and things like that, but there's better ways to express your point of view than basically shoving graphic images down our throats. Scaring people out of smoking NEVER works, I mean let's be realistic here. Also, even people who don't smoke have to look at these images,It's downright disturbing. Like I said, I'm all for ''Truth'', but do we really need to be grossed out by these images? There's better ways to get people off cigarettes.

The 86th St Fire

So it's Friday afternoon, Tonight will be just a normal night for a teenager: hang out, go see a movie, the usual thing. When I come home, I'll just be tired and go to sleep. Just a normal night like any other I'm sure. That's how it was last week in those houses that were set on fire, those poor souls never saw it coming. It was just a ''normal'' night, and look what it resulted in: DEATH. The fact that it was arson and someone purposely did that is downright sickening.
5 PEOPLE DIED. The survivors now have no homes and people now have no jobs. It's been the talk of the town, and it's all you hear on the news now. I saw the houses myself on Tuesday and it was so sad to see. All that caused by someone's wreckless thinking. How can someone do that? The guy who did it said ''demons'' told him to do it. YEAH SURE.... He was drunk too, and cameras caught him as well, and he's going to say ''Demons'' did it. This guy DESERVES what he got. It's just a sickening thought to me.
